Ok, imagine this: I’ve placed the order, the layout has been decided and the production of my tiny home can start. Let’s be crazy and say it will be ready in 3 months’ time. Purely hypothetically speaking, of course! But where then will I park my mobile mansion?
Well now, in my head this is not such a big thing. First of all, my home on wheels is not big. Secondly I don’t need any utility hook-ups. The little waste that I’ll produce won’t be a problem either and can be brought to friends or family if need be. It would be nice to be able to connect a water hose every once in a while, but even that could be solved differently.
My plan is this: by way of mouth-to-mouth advertising and PR to find someone with a nice plot of land who would be willing to lend or rent out a small corner of it to me. Maybe I can even do something in return, like walking the dog, feeding the cat when the landowner is away, or providing extra security, you name it. I’m thinking of a farmer or somebody that owns a piece of land privately. Preferably in a woodland area, but beggars can’t be choosers. ;)
A second option is to rent a spot on a camping site. In the winter months that should be affordable, but it’s more of a back-up plan. And who knows, maybe there are other options through the municipality or county? There are always pieces of land that are temporarily unused.
Is this terribly naive of me? I can imagine you thinking that. Deep down I feel this is going to work and I choose to trust that feeling. I will be pioneering, but that’s part of the charm. And what about your address, I hear you thinking? Well, I think my parents will be ok with me registering at their address. Taxes like waste disposal charges for a 3-person household are the same as for a 2- person household, I believe. Another option is applying for a postal address, but usually that’s only for temporary use. I need to check these things with the council. Right now I’m only in the planning phase, but it is good to think about these things.
For now I’ll first need to find someone to build my humble abode!
