Recently someone asked me via www.tinyhousenederland.nl to explain why I have chosen to live in a Tiny House, versus a small apartment for example. Well, Martine, here is the answer: at your service!
Of course, I can only speak for myself since I am aware that there are many other ways of living a more minimalistic lifestyle. Small apartments, a holiday home or even a caravan are all options. There are lots of really creative space-saving, multi-functional furniture choices out there now that are not necessarily just suitable for a Tiny House
The thing is: I just love wood. Wooden houses, tree houses, the ‘cabin in the woods’ idea. I also really love stone cottages by the way BUT I don’t own any land and am not in a position to buy my own land to build a permanent tiny home. Thus, I am dependant on others for the rental or lease of land. In such a situation a house on wheels is very practical, given the odds of having to move it elsewhere at some point. An apartment really isn’t my thing. I love gardening and long to have nature all around me. Therefore, a garden is a must for me. I would like to grow more of my own veggies and herbs, thereby becoming more self-sufficient. Moreover, I really don’t want to be living in a concrete block.
So that’s pretty much it! A Tiny House on wheels (THOW) is the ideal solution for me. And let’s not forget the opportunity to live off-grid, which I would really like to do. Although you could, of course, do that in a regular house too. If I really wanted to, I could put solar panels on the roof of my rental home, buy a compost toilet, or flush my current toilet with rainwater. But let’s be honest; a Tiny House is just so much more appealing. Right? :)
I hope I have sufficiently responded to your question, Martine! If you have a question, feel free to email me and I will do my utmost to respond!
